The Future of Computer Vision & Medical Imaging With AI

Artificial Intelligence. It was such the hot buzzword in 2022! Now AI is so ubiquitous, that we simply assume it is there, in the background, doing its magic, all the time. And, lo and behold, it did not replace any of us! We will review some key applications of AI and how they impacted Digital Health’s trajectory with companies like Philips showing the way.

Digital Transformation: Human Centered Design and System Thinking in Health Care

Digital (Orthopaedic) Transformation. So we’re now starting to get a picture of what the future holds and it is awesome, inspiring, and motivating. But how do we get there? Fortunately, we were the last to adopt digital tech so we had a lot of examples to draw on. In this session, we will hear from our friends at Ernst and Young on successful implementation of human centered design and system engineering in healthcare.

Lunch: DePuy Synthes & Zimmer Biomet Symposium

Hear from Zimmer Biomet and DePuy Synthes (The Orthopaedics Company of Johnson & Johnson) about how they navigated their own digital transformation in 2022. It was a wild ride into the unknown that worked out remarkably well.

1:00 pm

Dessert in the Exhibit Hall

We know you want a little more time after the symposia to connect. So much of the magic at DOCSF happens in the interstitial spaces between educational cells! Take a break, grab dessert and check out the cool technology in our exhibitor hall.

1:30 pm

Spotlight: Data & Interoperability

Today, accessing data wherever it is seems like a de-facto, natural state of affairs, but in 2022 data was locked away in silos. Several companies were tackling that issue and solving those challenges. In this session we will hear from three stakeholders trying to solve the data interoperability equation.

2:10 pm

Robotics in Orthopaedics

Back in 2022, surgical robots were all the rage. Today, as we know, the landscape looks quite different. Computers attached to actuators and sensors are helping us with many repetitive and otherwise menial tasks, freeing an every shrinking workforce to do things only humans can do. In this session we will explore how those trends we saw in 2022 played out over time.

2:50 pm

Recharge: Reconnect

Yes, we (still)  love our breaks. It is a time to check email, see old friends, check out the exhibits, and tell a friend something you found particularly memorable about the Data or Robotics lectures (nb: research suggests that if you tell someone, it is far more likely you will remember it later).

3:20 pm

Community and Digital Health Tech as a Gamified Service

Gaming was big in 2022. How big? $180 Billion big. By 2025 it was nearly $300B. That’s one big chunk of change. As with all tech, it is fungible. Tech leaks. It spreads. This is a good thing because it means we health care people do not have to worry about deploying VR headsets and IoT devices into people’s homes: they are already there! How cool. But in 2022 it was not so obvious. Join Roderick Alemagna, a 20 year veteran of the industry as he outlines the technology, games and applications that were hot in 2022, how they evolved into the games of today, and what it meant for healthcare.

4:00 pm

Ignition: Integrating the Future of Health

Who better to end our afternoon sessions, ignite our thinking, open us to the possible (and kick off our cocktail hour) than Dr. Daniel Kraft? Daniel has a unique perspective on what happened back in 2022 thanks to his ubiquitous presence on the digital health stage around the planet at that time. He is a physician, an entrepreneur, an investor, and innovator… as well as a pilot.

Deep Dive: Financing The Vision

Follow the money. Technology is expensive. Change management is not cheap. The question we always hear is this: how are we going to pay for innovation? How is Fin-tech getting involved in healthcare? How are the most innovative insurers tackling the question of financial reform? What does the Blockchain have to do with anything? In this segment the Innovation lead from Anthem and the CEO of Health.com will address the economic drivers that drove payment reform in 2022 and beyond.

Sensors, Sensing, and Sensei

Sensors are ubiquitous today, but in 2022 they were just beginning to take a hold to people’s wrists, watches, and homes. The people charged with leading innovation at Google ATAP in the 2020s will share what their vision of the future was and discuss how one small project fundamentally changed the way clinical data was collected in orthopaedics.

Hospitals in the Metaverse

Metaverse anyone? After much hullabaloo, and billions invested, the buzzword of the early 20’s was the arrival of the metaverse. 5G was a nascent technology and the theoretical limit for data transmission speeds, about 180 terabytes/second, had just been breached.

Digital Transformation: Integrating Technology

We heard yesterday from EY, an international consultancy, about the digital transformation that occurred in healthcare between 2022 and 2037. Today we hear about the challenges companies faced in those days when faced with digital adoption. Paul Limbrey, Managing Director for Global Agencies and Partners at Google helped Google’s customers integrate digital assets into analog cultures in those days and has much to teach us about how to do tech integration right to achieve a successful digital transformation. Paul’s also an amazing guitarist. Just sayin’…

IDEO Design Thinking for Digital Transformation: Part 1

IDEO has been a partner to DOCSF since our humble beginnings. Our hands on skills acquisition workshops focused Design Thinking tools that IDEO pioneered and which continue to survive in todays’ 2037 world. What we asked IDEOs team to do is to help us integrate what we have learned in the past 2 days into an effective strategy for success going forward. We seldom get an opportunity to sit, process, think and integrate what we have learned with fellow time travelers. This is it. Let’s get to work!
